Ever since I created this space, I felt like I was throwing spaghetti at the wall. Constantly trying to throw things at the wall hoping they would stick but nothing felt quite right.
I love cooking and creating recipes, but something about being a “food blogger” just didn’t sit right with me. Working out is my jam, but training others led me to burnout time and time again, and being a “fitness influencer” just never felt like a good fit. This year I have done a ton of reflecting, and I finally know what I want my mark to be in this crazy little internet world.
The Inspiration
Introducing…Balanced Black Girl. The grown-up, glowed up sister site and podcast for The Balanced Berry.
Balanced Black Girl is so much more than a blog. Balanced Black Girl is a wellness media hub in the making. It’s everything I have ever wanted to create but couldn’t fully articulate until this moment.
I’m ready for wellness that is more inclusive. That is rooted in activism and purpose. And that is real and attainable for all. If you’re ready to join me, head on over to iTunes and check out the podcast (I am SO excited for you to give it a listen), and check out balancedblackgirl.com for a fresh take on wellness led by women of color.
The Story Behind the Change
I’ve been on my wellness journey for several years now, and have taken countless classes, been in numerous workshops and attended tons of meetups. But each time the same discomfort remained – I was often the only woman of color in the room. However, I am not the only woman of color who benefits from being a part of the conversations I participated in. And I am certainly not the only woman of color who needs valuable self-care and wellness resources.
Because so often there were so few (if any) women of color in those rooms with me, I decided to create my own room. One that feels authentic to who I am the kind of community I want to create, and where women of color can feel welcomed and included. And I wanted that mission to be crystal clear.
But don’t you worry, The Balanced Berry and all the workouts, recipes, and stories shared over the past four years will still be here – it just won’t be my main focus. And not to fret, I’m still the same old Les. Honestly, I may even be a better Les, because I’m finally feeling inspired and excited to share the type of content I truly want to create with you. You can still find me hanging out on Instagram (@balancedles for me and @balancedblackgirlpodcast for all things podcast and website), Facebook, Twitter, and the podcast.
Thank you for being a part of my journey – I am so excited to begin this next adventure. Please don’t forget to subscribe to the Balanced Black Girl Podcast HERE.
Now let’s go put that #blackgirlmagic in motion.
I’m so happy for you, Les! I can definitely tell that you’ve gotten a lot of clarity and inspiration in the last few weeks. It’s been so great being your online friend for like, 3+ years??! So excited for this new chapter. <3
Oh wow, I’m so excited! Good for you Les! I’m really proud. It’s so amazing that you found your focus and your drive. You have an inspiration and a more definitive purpose. It’s been wonderful being a part of your journey and watching you grow. I think it’s very inspiring the way you reach out to people that way and really want to help. XD
