Today I wanted to switch things up a bit to talk about a topic I am incredibly passionate about – beauty products. More specifically, I am incredibly passionate about finding (and occasionally making!) natural beauty products that work. Caring about what we put on our bodies is as important as caring about what we put in our bodies. Our skin is our body’s largest organ, and can absorb many of the chemicals and ingredients in body care products into the bloodstream. A lot of conventional products available today contain some pretty shady ingredients such as parabens, artificial colors, and fragrances along with many others, that aren’t exactly good for us.
Now, I’m not claiming to be a naturalista who uses 100% pure natural products all the time and makes all my own cosmetics out of herbs and berries I grew in my backyard. I mean, that would be pretty awesome of I were, but I am keeping it real here.
I will say I am a bit of a skin freak. I am almost religious about taking care of my skin, and make no apologies about trying to age as gracefully as possible. Since I am 26 and still get carded for rated R movies (yes, this did happen recently) I’d say I’m onto something here. Ok fine I won’t flatter myself that much – I look young but I don’t think I look 17. I just think real 17 year olds these days look old as hell. I digress…
You may notice something missing – cleanser. That’s because for the last three-ish years I have sworn by oil cleansing to remove my makeup and keep my skin clean so I don’t buy traditional cleansers. If you would like me to do a post about my experience with oil cleansing, along with the oils I love to use let me know and I would be happy to write up a post about it! So without further adieu, here are a few skincare products that I have been loving lately.
Tone
For a few years now I have been using rosewater as a toner and face mist. To say I am obsessed would be an understatement. I usually spritz a bit of rosewater on a cotton pad after oil cleansing and run it over my face to reduce any last bits of oil and makeup that may be left behind. I can’t get enough of this stuff.

Serum
A few times a week, I love using a few drops of rosehip seed oil as a light serum. My skin tends to get pretty dry, especially in the winter so the added moisture is always helpful. It makes my skin feel really soft and gives a glowy effect (note: I am all about that glowy effect). Rosehip seed oil is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids that are great for the skin. I have found incorporating rosehip seed oil has also helped even out my skin tone. There are tons of different oils that work great as a serum or light moisturizer – try a few to find what works for you!

Eye Cream
That part above about being really into anti-aging? Eye cream is a huge part of that. The skin around the eyes is extra delicate, and really benefits from the concentrated moisture. I have been loving Acure’s eye cream because it is really light, doesn’t irritate my eyes and moisturizes my eye area incredibly well. It also works as a great primer before putting on under-eye concealer.

Protect
Anti-aging part two. Sunscreen. Use it every day no matter what color your skin is. The sun really doesn’t discriminate against anyone. I prefer physical sunscreens with Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide as the active ingredients.

Night Cream
At night, I like using a rich moisturizer. I use just a dab on my face, neck and chest. I notice my skin tone is much softer when I make it a point to moisturize at night and my makeup goes on smoother the next day. Totally worth it in my opinion!

When it comes to buying skincare products, iHerb is my go-to. I can usually find rare or hard-to-find products on their website for the best prices, and they are a great place to find natural products all in one place. They also have really fast shipping, so if you’re scraping the bottom of the container, it won’t take long for a new product to get to you!
If you have never ordered from iHerb, I have a little homie hookup for you. Use the code IWE317 for $5 off your first order!

So glad more people are getting into the habit of wearing sunscreen on the daily. As a makeup artist I can’t fuss over this enough. I do use natural products here and there such as night creams, deodorants and shampoo’s/body washes. I am still trying to convert more skincare, I am finding it hard though because I love all sorts of stuff! 🙂
Sunscreen really is a must!
Having a daily skincare routine is important. My 12-year-old daughter is finding out how important now that zits have begun to appear. Keeping you face clean with natural products is a perfect way!
I started getting really into skincare at that age for the same reason 🙂
I just turned 26 too and am totally on the same page and am a huge advocate for natural and organic products – whether consumed as food or as skincare, home cleaning, etc. Thanks for posting this, I thought it was a great roundup! Looking forward to reading more of your posts!!

I’m so glad it was helpful! I definitely plan to do more posts like this in the future
I’ll have to try some of this! I love using essential oils in my skin care routine.
I love using essential oils too! What are your favorite scents?
I’ve been obsessed with that exact same rosewater for years! Seriously have a bottle bedside, in my bag, in the car, and at my desk. It’s so refreshing and soothing.
It’s literally the best! I like keeping some in my gym bag too for a little spritz after working out.
I’ve really gotten into the rose water facial spray. It’s a special treat in the middle of the day when I’m feeling pooped out and need a refresher. Cheers!
Exactly! It is so refreshing
I try to keep natural ingredients on my skin (esp aloe vera) and keep away from the harsh chemicals. I am 33yrs old and have been mistaken for a high school student, which I don’t think I look THAT young, but I’ll take it!
Clearly you are doing something right 🙂 love it!
Have you ever tried Lush products? They have this one cleanser called Ultrabland that I LOVE! It basically doubles as a moisturizer it’s so rich.
I love Fable Naturals, especially their moisturizing oil! Say Yes to also makes some great products which are pretty accessible.
Natural skincare products are definitely something I’ve been paying more attention to lately. As I’m finishing up products I’ve already purchased, I’m finding myself looking for natural alternatives! Def want to get some rosewater.
I love this post! I only use “natural” skin care and cruelty-free products/brands. I use coconut oil for almost everything and different types of oils for my face. It works so well!
So my roommate and I have been on an natural remedies – homeopathic kick lately. It started with coconut oil on the beach on day and turned into Apple – Cider – Aztec – Mud – Masks every weekend. We are obsessed! I can’t wait to tell her about these suggestions too so that we can try them out!! Thanks for the info.
Cheers!

That’s great! Isn’t natural skincare so fun? Once you get started it’s easy to get hooked haha. What are some of your favorite products?
I would be interested to hear about your oil cleansing routine and products
Thanks for your feedback!
