Welcome to day five of the TBB Hydration Challenge! Although today is the official last day of the challenge, I really hope you’re feeling more hydrated, and like you have some tips and tricks to help you give your beautiful bod the water it needs, when it needs it.
Not only is today the last day of the challenge, but it’s also Friday – everyone’s favorite day of the week. You know what that means?
Cheers to the freakin’ weekend! Beyonce GIFs aside, staying hydrated during the weekend can be tough. You’re often busier (especially during the summer) and it can be harder to keep track of how much water you’re taking in. And let’s not forget about…
Yup. Going out. It totally happens, and being social is an important part of living a healthy, balanced, life. So let’s chat about some tips to help you stay hydrated during the weekend, even when you’re busy doing all of the things.
Hydrate before your meals
It can be hard to stay on track with hydration on the weekend because we’re often put out of our normal routines. One thing we all do consistently even on the weekends is eat. Try to have a glass of water before each meal to help you get in some more ounces even when you’re outside of your normal routine.
Snack on hydrating foods throughout the day
Earlier in the week we talked about incorporating hydrating foods into your diet – and this is especially helpful on the weekends if you’re out of your routine and can’t lug your water bottle around with you! Remember that snacking on foods with high water content such as cucumbers, watermelon, citrus and leafy greens can help keep your body hydrated as well.
Alternate cocktails with water or mocktail it up
If you choose to drink alcohol, try to have a glass of plain water with every cocktail you drink. Alcohol itself is dehydrating, as is the sugar that many cocktails are filled with. Alternating cocktails with water is a good way to stay hydrated, and make the recovery process easier the next day 😉
If you’re feeling naturally sassy, swap out your cocktails for mocktails. Color me lame, but I have been really into making my own low-sugar mocktails! It can be a fun way to experiment with new flavor combinations and can alleviate awkward “why aren’t you drinking?” conversations in social situations.
And now, for perhaps my favorite recipe of the entire week – the Moscow Mule Mocktail. Moscow Mules are such a refreshing summer drink, so to make it more Hydration Challenge friendly, we cut the booze but kept all the ginger-lime goodness. Bottoms up!
