You know what’s the best? Really easy recipes that come together with little effort, using ingredients you already have on hand.
Sometimes when it comes to recipe development us bloggers try to get a little too fancy. We always want to be on top of the next superfood, are constantly trying to come up with unique flavor combinations and are always trying to be innovative when it comes to our eats.
It is awesome! And is what makes blogging (especially food blogging) fun. But sometimes you just want to open up the pantry and whip up something good and good for you without having to run to the store and buy a bunch of crazy expensive ingredients.
Today, my friends, we are rolling with one of those pantry goodness recipes.
This recipe, like so many of my other recipes, was inspired by a Trader Joe’s favorite. In their chips and salsa section they have an amazing spicy black bean dip that I recently fell in love with. The ingredient list was so simple, I knew a homemade version needed to happen.
Literally just throw all of the ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth. Then I dip, you dip, we dip. That’s it!
This dip would be perfect for game day, or as an easy snack to make during meal prep and eat all week. You can dip veggies, tortilla chips, plantain chips (my personal favorites)…you name it! It also makes an amazing spread for wraps and quesadillas.
- 1 can of Black Beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 Clove Garlic
- 1 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1 Jalapeño Pepper, seeded and chopped
- 2 Tablespoons Tomato Paste
- ¼ Onion, Chopped
- ½ Teaspoon Honey (sub agave for vegan)
- ¼ Teaspoon Chili Powder
- Juice ½ Lime
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- Place all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth. If the dip is too thick, add one tablespoon of water at a time and blend until reaching the desired consistency.
Your Turn:
- What are some of your favorite recipes with simple ingredients?
- What are your favorite dippers?

Mm I’ve never made bean dip like THIS! It’s normally baked in the oven with lots of Mexican flavors 😉
I actually did heat up a serving like this under a layer of cheese and HOLY YUM 🙂
I LOVE this, Les! Sometimes simple is better – without all the crazy superfood expensive ingredients. I’m all about black beans in every which way, so this looks delicious.
I’m so glad you agree girl! I love a good superfood concoction as much as the next blogger, but sometimes it is nice to keep things simple 🙂
