Confession time. I have been feeling pretty…uninspired in the food department. Up until recently I hadn’t created a new recipe in ages, and was eating the same boring staples day after day because I just felt too busy to get creative in the kitchen.
I know. Someone take my temperature please.
Thankfully Sun Basket contacted me right in the middle of my food rut and asked me if I would like to try a few of their meals. Sun Basket is a new healthy meal kit service that delivers organic ingredients and delicious, easy-to-make recipes for cooking at home. They have a variety of recipes to choose from with Paleo, Gluten-free and Vegetarian options, including healthy breakfast recipes.
Ummmm, yes please.
For my meals, I chose:
- Pan-roasted salmon with artichoke pilaf
- Roasted chicken with braised radishes and celery-root puree
- Spinach and pepper frittata with pesto
- Coconut almond smoothie
When my order arrived, all of the ingredients were carefully packaged and incredibly fresh. After spending weeks out of the kitchen, I was excited to dive in and start cooking again!
The recipes were incredibly easy to follow, even beginners would feel comfortable preparing them. No fancy equipment or preparation skills were needed, and the meals took about 30 minutes to make (with the exception of the smoothie, that took only a few minutes to prep and blend up).
Fun fact: I am notorious for ruining salmon every time I try to cook it. And even I, with my salmon-ruining self was able to prepare the pan-roasted salmon with artichoke pilaf perfectly. Miracles do happen, friends.
Overall, I really enjoyed all of the meals. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be a tie between the coconut almond smoothie (because, smoothie) and the roasted chicken with radishes and celery-root puree. It’s no secret that I LOVE smoothies, and the coconut almond smoothie was no exception. It tasted like a creamsicle in a glass, and was absolutely delicious.
The roasted chicken with braised radishes and celery-root puree was also a big winner in my book, and my mom really enjoyed it as well. It was fun being able to go with the flow of a recipe, and I also loved using ingredients that I don’t normally cook with such as radishes, celery-root and leeks.
I am happy to say, preparing all of the meals definitely got me excited to get back into the kitchen. I was definitely inspired by the different flavors and ingredients, and loved being able to have home-cooked meals with all of the ingredients waiting for me at my doorstep. #lazy
I was really impressed by the quality of the ingredients for all of the meals. All of the ingredients in Sun Basket’s kits have organic, non-GMO produce from West Coast farms and sustainably sourced hormone-free meats and seafood.
And now, a fun surprise for you – Sun Basket is giving away one week of meals for a lucky reader! All you have to do is enter via email below, and I will be contacting winners next week. Mmmm!! They just reached out to me too — I just put my order in and can’t wait to try it. I have some Moroccan Chicken Wings coming that I’m super excited about…but the salmon looks AMAZINGGG!!
Ooh Moroccan Chicken sounds incredible! Can’t wait to hear what you think!
Oh wow, this is such a cool idea! I wish there was a service like this in Canada!
These services are becoming increasingly popular, I am sure something similar will make its way to you soon! xo
I’ve been in a cooking rut lately because it’s warmer out and I don’t feel like staying inside my apartment to cook. I LOVE this idea and thank you so much for the giveaway!! 🙂
That’s exactly how I was feeling! Good luck 🙂
I love Sun Basket! They do SUCH a good job! Thanks for the chance to win it! I would love to try it again! xx
Agreed! This was my first time trying them, but I really enjoyed it. Good luck!
I’ve noticed that getting food delivered to your door is becoming really popular. I can see why – many of my friends say they just want to make a quick easy meal after work. Fortunately, I am not in a food rut and love to create new recipes, but I am also not working so it makes things easier.
It is getting very popular – the convenience factor is definitely nice.
I haven’t heard of this service but it sounds fab!
They are great! Highly recommend 🙂
What a great service! I’m so glad that there are companies pairing with farmers and sending out awesome food boxes to families. I’m a huge fan of getting people to eat at home more often. What a fun thing. Thanks for sharing.
I completely agree! I love how they partner with farms and service local areas. I am all about getting people to share food at home as well 🙂
YUM! That smoothie looks incredibly good. I have tried the meal service thang… yet!
