Welcome to day three of the #TBBHydrationChallenge! We are just moving and grooving through this challenge. I have to be fully transparent – leading this challenge for you guys has definitely helped me get my butt into gear when it comes to hydration. The past few days, I have been much better about drinking water than I have been in a long time, so thank YOU for giving me some added accountability!
So far we have talked about some important topics when it comes to hydration including why it’s important to stay hydrated, how much fluid you should be having each day, and easy ways to get more water into your day if you aren’t in the habit of it. Today we are going to talk about a topic that is perhaps the biggest culprit of dehydration for many of us: getting too busy/forgetting to drink enough water.
It sounds silly, but it happens to the best of us. On a busy day, it can be all too easy to go hours and hours without drinking water without even realizing it. I personally experienced this on a drastic scale after switching from the corporate world to the retail world. Back at my desk job, I would throw back water all day long because 1) I was bored and 2) frequent breaks from my desk via trips to the restroom and water cooler were always welcome. But when I switched to a job that had me on my feet and moving around all day long, it became all too easy to let my water consumption fall by the wayside.
Thankfully I’ve gotten better about it over time and want to share a few tips to help you drink more water if you easily forget.
Keep your water bottle with you at all times
If you don’t have a go-to water bottle that you keep with you as much as you can, get on it sister. Not only are refillable water bottles way better for the environment than drinking bottled water on the daily, but having your water bottle with you all day can be a good visual cue reminding you to drink more water. Even spotting your water bottle rolling around in your purse can be a good reminder for you to take a sip. Or if you prefer using a clear water bottle, being able to visually see how much you have consumed can be a really helpful reminder.
Having a trusty water bottle can also help you stay on track if you are picky about the type of water you drink. If you like your water ice-cold and hate drinking room temperature water, you probably want to get your hands on a stainless steel bottle that will keep your water super cold all-day. Or if you (like me) are more willing to drink more water when you have a straw, there are water bottles with those built in too. Find one that’s a good fit for you, and keep it with you all day erryday.
Set alarms or reminders on your phone telling you to drink water throughout the day
Let’s be real. Most of us spend an obnoxious amount of time on our phones every day. Our businesses, schedules, and social lives revolve around our phones. Let your phone help you out! Set some alarms or reminders every few hours to remind you to take some sips. I’ve been doing this for awhile, and it has definitely been a game-changer.
Self Check-In
Personal question coming at you – when was the last time you had to use the restroom? You don’t have to answer that – but it is a good question to ask yourself throughout the day. Now, I’m not saying you should be running to the restroom every few minutes (if you do, perhaps it’s time to see a doctor?). But if you do a little check-in with yourself and realize it has been hours and hours since you’ve had to go, then it’s time to sip some water! It sounds silly, but we are all about keeping it 100 here at TBB.
Alright, now that you officially think I’m crazy, let’s jump into today’s hydrating recipe – Watermelon Chia Fresca. If you aren’t familiar with them, chia seeds are a great source of protein, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids. So not only is this drink super hydrating and naturally sweet thanks to the watermelon, but it’s filling and satisfying thanks to the chia.
